Text Box: From food to pennies!  To continue in the spirit of giving, we would like the children to EARN money for our Globe Santa donation.  Please talk to your child about ways he/she can EARN money at home.  They can look for “Santa” at school and drop the money in.  It is another meaningful way to teach children about helping others who are less fortunate.

How Globe Santa Works
“Since 1956, Globe Santa has been The Boston Globe's annual appeal for needy children in Greater Boston. The Globe Santa Fund collects donations from readers and advertisers to purchase holiday gifts for underprivileged children. In recent years, Globe Santa has received more than $1 million dollars in contributions annually. The program helps brighten the holiday season for more than 27,000 families and 57,000 children in 130 communities every year.”

AFTERNOON CLASSES/ENROLLMENT_________________________________________

We would love to have an afternoon program for both PreK and Nursery classes.  We need a minimum of 5 students to start a class.  If you know families who may be interested, please let them know.

Also note, our Nursery program includes children who are 2.9 years of age (as of August 31st 2009). We are happy to include children who are 2.9 with the understanding that they will need 2 years of Nursery school before being age eligible for our PreK program.

As always, thank you for your kind words about our school that has sent many of your friends for a visit to our classroom!

CANDY CANE LANE_______________________________________________________

It’s right around the corner…we can’t believe it!  Candy Cane Lane is held at night at our South Street school.  It is a wonderful time for your family to do fun, creative projects in South Street’s Big Hall classroom as you wait your turn to spend quiet, uninterrupted, individual time with Santa!

More information will be sent home.

FUNDRAISER_____________________________________________________________

Thank you to everyone who supported our Square 1 Art fundraiser.  We love your kids’ art and hope you love the quality of the items when they come in.  Your generosity helped raise $847 between both of our schools!

HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS__________________________________________________

We have fun holiday projects planned his month.  Please let us know if you have any family celebrations you’d like to share.

LABELS_________________________________________________________________

Please label everything when needed and when possible.  Please label all backpacks, lunchboxes, coats, etc. clearly so teachers can easily identify who things belong to if there is a mix-up, misunderstanding, or if something is left behind.  THANKS!

LOST and FOUND ________________________________________________________

Please help solve a mystery!  After snack on a Tuesday, Mrs. Sullivan swept and cleaned the classroom floor.  Then, after lunch, a beautiful diamond cross necklace appeared on the floor.  We don’t know if it belongs to a Nursery parent, or if it was left in the mailbox of a PreK child and got pulled out when a Tuesday friend emptied their mailbox.  Please check your jewelry boxes at home.  Maybe one of our friends “borrowed” your beautiful necklace and forgot to let you know.  We will keep it safe until we find the owner.

LUNCH BUNCH___________________________________________________________

If your child attends Lunch Bunch, please label everything in his/her lunchbox…sandwich containers, yogurt, juice boxes, water bottles, spoons, ice packs, etc.  The kids open their lunchboxes and take things out quickly, often before the teachers can see what belongs to each person.  We want to make sure that each child is eating and drinking what is sent for them.  We don’t want it to be time consuming, so simply writing your child’s name with a permanent marker works well.  Thanks so much for your help!

NAME WRITING _________________________________________________________

We encourage all students, PreK and Nursery, to write their names on their papers.  If you are practicing at home as well, we wanted to let you know that we are teaching the children to write their names using uppercase and lowercase letters. It models the correct way to write names and will prepare them for what they will be asked to learn/do in Kindergarten.

PLAY DOUGH_____________________________________________________________

Thank you to everyone who made play dough for the classroom.  While the kids are having fun making play dough creations, they are also busy enjoying conversations with friends and strengthening their fine motor skills.

WEATHER ALERT_________________________________________________________

If winter storms cause school cancellations, please listen to local radio stations or watch the news.  We follow the Medfield Public Schools and cancel school only when the entire school system closes.  If the Medfield Public Schools have a delay or cancels Nursery or Kindergarten classes, we are still open the same hours.

WINTER WEATHER_______________________________________________________

Brrrr, winter weather is here!  Please send your child to school with appropriate (labeled) outerwear that is warm enough for outside play! The teachers may be assisting up to 12 excited children who are eager to get outside, so please select items which your child can easily and independently manage.

Text Box: Mrs. Baker asked her class what ship the Pilgrims sailed on.  One boy answered, “The Cauliflower!”

Mrs. Martin announced to the class on a rainy day after lunch, “The Pumpkin Heads are open to play with!”  Ooops!...I think she meant the POTATO HEADS!
