Charles River CPC Art Show

The Charles River Community Partnership for Children is having their 2nd annual Art Show.  We were invited to be a part of it and were proud to accept the invitation.  We will include one unique, creative masterpiece from each child to include in the show.

The Art Show will take place at the Memorial School on

April 4th.  I will send along more information when it becomes available.

Enrollment

Nursery…Thank you for turning in your application for the 2008-2009 school year.  We are so happy you’ll be joining us for PreK, too.  Soon you will be receiving forms to complete for next year’s file.

Everyone…We are still hoping for afternoon classes (we need a minimum of 5 students to start the class) and want to thank all of you who recommended our program to your friends!

Toddler Class at South Street

Medfield Children’s Center on South Street has openings for the Toddler Class (15 months to 2.8 years old as of August 31st).

We’ve had the cutest toddlers over the years!  It is a great program for our youngest “students”!  There’s time to play, sing, learn to share, snuggle on a teacher’s lap to listen to stories, catch bubbles, create art…oh, the fun!

If you’re interested in the program and need  childcare (2 day, 9:00-3:00 minimum is required), please call Robin Holland (MCC Owner/Director) at 508-359-4239.  She’d love to talk to you and explain the program.

Lunch Bunch

Thank you to everyone who labels everything in their child’s lunch (containers, juice boxes, yogurt, cheese sticks, etc.)!  We truly appreciate the time you take to do it.  It makes lunch time go more smoothly when we can clearly tell what food and drink belong to each child.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for labeling!

Music – Nursery Class

The classroom was filled with singing and smiles when Miss Elaine came to visit!  She played her guitar and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and The Alphabet Song, along with other old favorites!  She also taught us Valentine’s songs and used her felt board and story pieces to go with them.

Wish you could have seen their eyes light up and heard the giggles…priceless!

We can’t wait until her next visit on March 10th!

Parent Surveys

We can’t believe 6 months has already gone by since the start of school!  We hope you and your child have enjoyed our program!  Your kids are the best and we love each day we have with them.  Oh, the fun we have making friends, painting, singing, reading, playing, exploring…

We would love to know what you think about our school.  With our newsletter this month is our annual Parent Survey (for families who receive newsletters via email, look for a survey in your child’s mail pocket).  We already have exciting plans in mind for next year, but we always welcome constructive comments on the strengths of our program and on ways we can improve.

We encourage you to fill out the survey and return it the week of March 16th.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey and share your thoughts and ideas!  We’re looking forward to another

3 ½ months of school!

Summer Program

Our South Street school has a fun themed Summer Program.  The calendar and applications for the Summer Program are available.  If you’re interested in the summer schedule, please see Sharon Maillet.

Winter is still here, but summer is right around the corner…Yay!

Xaverian High School Students

For the past several years we have been fortunate to have seniors from Xaverian Brothers High School complete their work study at our school.  They immediately won the heart of the kids and became members of our MCC family.  We are so happy to have three seniors join us again this month.

Please welcome Andrew, Nolan, and Robby!

Can you guess who this section is about?  It’s about one of our favorite cats and the author and illustrator who brought him to life and made him so memorable!

You guessed it…it’s Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat!

Memorial School is celebrating Read Across America (week of

March 2nd-March 6th) and Dr. Seuss’ birthday by asking for volunteers to be a special guest reader in the kindergarten and first grade classes on March 5th.  Mrs. Sullivan and I were happy to sign-up for the job!  We love books and can’t wait to visit Memorial School!  The hard part is choosing one or two books out of the hundreds that we love!

We’re hoping to see a few alumnae or siblings of our favorite kids while we’re there!

“Anxiety and Stress in Our Children”

On Wednesday, March 4th, Jodi DiNatale, a South Street parent, is presenting a seminar, “Anxiety and Stress in Our Children.”  She gave a terrific presentation in September about keeping our children safe from strangers.  We are looking forward to having her back.  We hope to see you there!

Our South Street school is located in the First Baptist Church across the street from Lord’s.  If you’re able to attend, we ask that you do not park in Lord’s parking lot.  Thank you!

Valentines

Thank you for all the Valentine goodies you brought in…for the kids and the teachers!

Kid Quotes

When a PreK girl saw the skin of a skunk that Miss Sara from Stony Brook brought in, she commented, “It looks like it got run over by a bus!”

A PreK girl, after the snack poem was said, loudly and enthusiastically exclaimed,

“Cherryokee my people!”

 (meaning Cherokee)

We are so excited to introduce a new page to MCC’s newsletter…

World of Whimsy and Wonder!

We wanted some of the fun we have at school to continue at home.

Soooo, from our classroom to yours…

World of Whimsy and Wonder!

Last month we tried the “Magic Muck“experiment!

If you want to continue the fun at home, here’s what to do…

Materials:

1.      Make a cornstarch and water mixture.  Pour the cornstarch into the bowl and then add the water.  Mix the two together by lifting the mixture from the bottom of the bowl to the top with your fingers until there is an even consistency.

2.      Play with it.  Use your hands, a spoon, a stick…

3.      Make note of properties such as size, shape, texture, weight, hardness…

4.      Be a scientist and ask questions…

Keep your eyes and ears open…

the Leprechauns are marching this month at our school!

Those tricky leprechauns!  Every March they march into our classroom and hide.  Be on the lookout for their green shadows!

In case your child comes home humming the tune or singing the song, here are all the words…

The leprechauns are marching,

they’re marching down the hall,

they’re marching on the ceiling,

they’re marching up the wall!

They’re marching two by two.

They’re marching four by four.

You say you cannot see them?

Look out!  Here come some more!

Book Nook (I know you’ve heard this before, but the best gift you can give a child, is to read to them!)

We LOVE children’s literature!  There are so many wonderful books, that we couldn’t possibly read all the ones we love in one school year, so we thought we’d add the Book Nook to our newsletter to let you know a little bit about some of our favorites!  Since Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2nd, what better way to start our Book Nook than with Dr. Seuss stories!  If you’re like me, then you know and love his classics like the

Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.  Recently I went to the library and brought home a bag full, along with an armload full, of books, with lots of Dr. Seuss books tucked inside!  I’m so happy that I entered the world of so many other Dr. Seuss stories and met more Dr. Suess friends.   Some of his stories are long for little listeners, but they are fun, imaginative, and full of life lessons…they are worth the adventure!  Hope you take the time to meet Horton, Yertle, Gertrude McFuzz…!

Horton Hears a Who…”A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

Horton Hatches the Egg…An elephant hatching an egg?!!  “An elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!”

Yertle the Turtle…Don’t forget about all the little turtles who helped get you to the top!

I Can Read with My Eyes Shut…What do you mean?  Read with your eyes shut!  Is that possible?

There are so many others that I can’t list them all!   Happy Reading!  Hope you enjoy the rhyming brilliance of Theodor S. Geisel, who was born and raised right here in Springfield, MA on Mulberry Street!
