PARENTS’ CORNER

1.        Now that the winter weather is finally leaving, we can look forward to more outdoor play!  Please have your children dress accordingly with proper footwear.  Sneakers are the best and safest to wear.  (No clogs, please)

2.        Our Summer Program sign up continues for our MCC students.  Please consider our special “Theme Week” program for your children as you plan your summer schedule.  If f your child will be here at all this summer, you will need to fill out summer formsPlease see Robin with any questions.

3.        We had our monthly visits from Miss Ellen from ComputerTots, Miss Elaine our Music and Movement teacher, Miss Sarah from Stony Brook, and Miss Livvie, our native Spanish speaker.  On two different occasions the kids from Medfield High’s Discovery Zone (a child development class) came in to play with our PreK and Transitional kids.   Wow, we are one busy school!!

DIRECTOR’S CORNER

Now that the warmer weather is here (finally!), we’ve noticed that after 12:30 pick-up some of you are staying around in our play ground.  That’s great, the more exercise the better!!  But we ask that if your child needs to come in for any reason, (i.e. bathroom), please be sure to accompany him or her.  We try to discourage the children being alone in the school.  Thanks for your understanding.    Also, please make sure your child is following MCC’s playground rules.  We want to make sure we are consistent from home to school.  A copy of the rules is attachedJ

Thank you, thank you, thank you to those families who took the time to fill out our annual survey.  With your help, we can only continue to improve our programJ

During the vacation weeks, Dec., Feb. & April, we like to “mix things up” a little.  Your child may not get the same teacher he/she has during the regular school year, but please be assured, all the kids at MCC know each teacher quite well and should be comfortable with whomever they are with.  Please let me know if you have any questions!!

If anyone has any scrap paper that you are willing to donate, or envelopes with non-current return addresses we know a pre-school that would love to put it to good useJ

APRIL SHOWERS BRING…LOTS OF SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS!!  Bryn (4/19), Garrison (4/27), Mona (4/9), & Meghan (4/5).

Wow, they’ll be partying all month in the toddler room!

THE FUNNY PAGES (special “booger” addition)

I was reading a story to the kids in the Big Hall today; the cover of the book had a picture of a little girl with a toe up her nose.  I said to the kids, “Eeww, that’s kind of gross.”  One little friend piped, “She shouldn’t be doing that, she should be using her finger!”

I was watching the kids in the Big Hall during rest.  One boy rolled over to me and said (very seriously), “My big brother picks his nose, puts it on his tongue (dramatic pause)…and he does it at the table!”

A PreK boy was showing me his great new sneaks.  One of his friends wanted to get in on the act.  She said to me, “Miss Robin, look at my new shoes, I got them a long, long, long time ago.”

Eric was talking to someone about being a vegetarian.  One of Mrs. Dowd’s kids said, “Eric, I know what a vegetarian is, it’s someone who takes care of animals.”

(Normally, I’d let you know which class this happened in, but you’ll see why I can’tJ)  One little girl happily opened up her lunch box and exclaimed, “Hooray, I have strawberry milk cuz my dad made lunch, but he told me I can’t tell my mom!”

Mrs. Dowd was eavesdropping on a conversation taking place in Mrs. Lupo’s class.  One little boy was explaining to another about why cows had 4 stomachs.  The reason he gave was that, “Cows are looong animals.”

  CLASSROOM CORNER

Toddler Class -The sun is here and the snow gear is awayy!  The kids are ecstatic about how much time we get to play outside AND go for a walk.  They love just sitting and looking at the water, having a snack, and chatting with each other.  The children are having conversations with one another and really starting to ease out of the “toddler phase” into the “nursery phase”.  They are all EXTREMELY independent in all different ways which is very interesting at timesJ  Another special friend is potty trained, nothing is better than seeing such pride on their faces when they come in with big girl and boy underpants on!  We have a lot of birthdays coming up in April and May; can you believe they are turning three already?!?!?  We are so excited and even set the special birthday party extravaganza celebration date!  Let’s just hope April saves the rain for another time!

Kristin’s Nursery Class - The children in class sure had wonderful time learning about dinosaurs, patterns & basic math.  Our class is very interested lately in numbers and we are doing adding and subtracting with toys, crayons, puzzle pieces, etc.  It’s amazing how many things there are to count everywhere we look!  Also, thank you to Lucky the leprechaun for visiting our school, it was very exciting!A new song we learned was “Dinosaur, Dinosaur” sung to “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around’.  It goes like this:

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, turn around,

                Dinosaur, Dinosaur, touch the ground,

                Dinosaur, Dinosaur, go upstairs

                Dinosaur, Dinosaur, say your prayers

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, turn out the light

                Dinosaur, Dinosaur, say goodnight.

Elizabeth’s Nursery Class - March, “In like a lion, out like a lamb”.  Spring has finally arrived, yea!!!  The children had a great month.  We loved “ABC Week”.  The kids had a blast coming up with different words and singing their ABC’s.  We finished off “Dinosaur Week” with a bang.  “All About Green Week” was fun, and we even had a leprechaun come in to visit!  I can’t wait for the Art Show; the children have created their own stories in a week-long project.  What incredible imaginations they have! We also started a very special treat for the kids in March.  Miss Robin comes to the Big Hall and reads a special story to the children right before lunch.  They love it and are WONDERFUL listenersJ  I wish everyone a Happy Easter and always remember if you have any questions, please give me a call.

Ms. Wendy’s PreK Class – March came in like a lion for us!  We had an early April Fool’s earlier in the month with all that snow (no complaints from the kids), but we still got to enjoy some great outside time.  We have been counting the days till spring and it’s great to know it’s finally here!  We are well on our way to completing the alphabet.  We did lots of fun projects for the letters “Q”, “R”, “S”, “T” and “U”.  That included a class quilt, rainbow people and tigers.  Please remember that I will be saving lots of great projects for our annual Art Show that takes place in May.  Wait till you see how talented my little artists are!!  We had fun celebrating two special 5th birthdays.  Also, Miss Sarah came and talked to us about reptiles.  We always love when she comes to visit.  Springing ahead…we are so looking forward to Farmer Arthur Cronin coming the week of March 30th with an incubator filled with eggs.  We’ll keep our fingers crossed that we’ll see them hatch.  Also, we will have a surprise visitor in April who will leave us all kinds of treats!

Mrs. Dowd’s PreK Class – We happily welcomed spring to our class on March 20th.  We are ready to say goodbye to winter.  The letters “Q”, “R”, “S”, “T” and “U” were introduced and we enjoyed our monthly Stony Brook visit.  Two very exciting events are happening in our classroom-we are growing an amazing amaryllis plant and our caterpillars have formed chrysalides.  Even more exciting, we came in to school after the weekend, and the chrysalides were gone.  In their place were five beautiful butterflies!  The children so enjoyed watching the progress of both.  We also had the child development class at Medfield High School visit with puzzles and playdoh to play with, as well as stories to read.  Silly Sock Day was “S”ensational.  Tuesday, March 17th was fabulous in our class-the leprechauns came to visit, what fun!!  A BIG thank you to Tom for bringing two baby goats to visit.  They were so cute!  We are looking forward to “My Favorite Storybook” time in our class.  If I haven’t told you lately your children are wonderful and a joy to be with each dayJ   Important dates to remember:

1.  May 13, 2009-Art Show 6:00-7:30

2.  June 10, 2009-Graduation for PreK/Transitional students 9:30

3.  April 6th-Opening Day (GO RED SOX!!)

Mrs. Lupo’s Transitional Class – Welcome Spring!  March was a fun month in our classroom.  We learned about lots of animals from the farm to exotic places like Australia and Antarctica.  Everyone did a great job on their projects and sharing their thoughts.  If you feel like you are missing some projects coming home, you are correct!  Remember our annual Art Show is coming up in May.  Mark your calendar for May 13th; you won’t want to miss it!  We had lots of visitors to our school this month, Stony Brook, Kayley’s goats, and maybe even a mischievous leprechaun.  We’re not sure he came, we never saw him but lots of tricks transpired on the second floor; can you believe our water and juice turned green?!?!  Maybe next year will be the year that we finally catch the leprechaun and find that pot filled with gold!!
