1. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for your generous food donations to Albuquerque Turkey, which have been delivered to local food pantries. Your generosity in helping us support the local food pantry is so much appreciated!!
2. Anyone able to share his or her family holiday tradition with us should speak directly to his or her child’s teacher. We love to hear of any special cultural traditions you may haveJ
3. Your child’s teacher will let you know when holiday parties will be held. Sign-up sheets will be posted.
4. “Weather Alert” Reminders – If the ENTIRE Medfield Public Schools are closed, we are closed as well. If they are on a delay or they cancel Kindergarten only, we are open normal hours!!! I try to leave a message on our phone by 6:00/6:15 am if there is no school, so please call us up if you are unsureJ
5. In an attempt to play outdoors as often as possible please be sure your children have warm outerwear (hats and mittens included) with them. Please send in boots and “snow gear” as needed. We find a separate bag for all the gear works well. We will go outside in snowy weather.
6. Registration is now open for the 2009-2010 school year. Please see, email (rph.mcc@verizon.net) or call Robin (359-4239) if you have a current student or sibling you wish to enroll. Spaces are filling up fast so please get in your application as soon as possible to ensure you get the days you need/want. Spread the word!!
7. Our Spanish scholars continue on Wednesdays to learn thru song and fun the Spanish language. A new session is starting. Please see Robin if you have any interest.
8. Miss Ellen from ComputerTots was with us in November. The children are having a great time and learning a lot! There is still room if
you would like to sign up your child for this terrific class.
9. Miss Sara from Stony Brook made her monthly visit to our PreK & Transitional students. The children enjoyed her program a lot, and look forward to her next month’s visit.
THE FUNNY PAGES
During a special snack of cupcakes for a birthday party in Mrs. Dowd’s room, the children were talking about how yummy the frosting was. One little girl said, “I like the bread part too.”
One little girl was going to a Halloween party at her dad’s workplace. When asked what she was going to be she replied, “Little Bo Sheep”.
A Big Hall friend was being overly exuberant at play so he was asked to sit down on the bench outside till he was able to calm down a bit. He looked at one of his teachers and said, “But Miss Trish, super heroes never get put in time out.”
Kathleen was telling her toddler friends that the stapler was broken. Trying to be helpful, a little friend piped up, “Maybe it just needs batteries.”
I was outside in the play-yard saying goodbye to a potential new family for next year. One of Mrs. Lupo’s kids saw me and said, “You should be in your office Miss Robin, not outside.”
I noticed one of Mrs. Dowd’s friends got a haircut over the weekend. When I commented how handsome he was he replied, I know, it’s called a buzz cut and it’s for summer, but I got it by mistake.”
DIRECTOR’S CORNER
As you all know, December is a very busy month for all. If you think you may need extra hours, please let us know as soon as possible so we can try to accommodate you. If your child is attending the child care portion of the day, please let us know your plans for the week of 12-29-08 so we know how to plan accordingly for our staff. Thank you and Happy Holidays to all!!
During the vacation weeks, Dec., Feb. & April, we like to “mix things up” a little. Your child may not get the same teacher he/she has during the regular school year, but please be assured, all the kids at MCC know each teacher quite well and should be comfortable with whomever they are with. Please let me know if you have any questions!! If, during the vacation weeks, there is a question about school cancellation due to inclement weather, give the school a call. There will be a message on the machine if MCC will be closed, hopefully by 6:00 am ish.
A Big Thank You to all families who participated in our Square One Art Fundraiser. Between MCC’s two locations, we had 44.6% participation. Not too bad at allJ We earned $824.41 for our schools. I hope you enjoy the creations your child worked so hard on.
CLASSROOM CORNER
TODDLERS – DONNA, KATHLEEN AND DEB
Fall is here and the hats and mittens are out. The children are doing so well with their shapes and colors, and they are talking all day long. WE love hearing all the funny things that come out of their smiley mouths. Kudos to all the kids doing so wonderfully with potty training. They are so proud of themselves and so are we! We’ve done some great Thanksgiving projects like turkey hands and pilgrim hats. The children still love our daily walks to the pond. The turtles may be all gone, but the geese come to visit us! The children enjoy seeing the leaves fall and hearing the trucks go “toot, toot”. Many thanks to the parents who made our October such a success!
NURSERY – ELIZABETH
Well, winter has finally arrived, and it is cold!! November was a lot of fun for our class. The children loved reading books by their favorite authors (Norman Bridwell-Clifford and HA Rey-Curious George). We had so much fun making Thanksgiving treats. The children’s turkeys came out great. Ask them to sing you the song “Albuquerque Turkey”. December should be full of fun. We have Jan Brett week and all her great books. The kids will have a blast learning about celebrating Christmas around the world. Be prepared for lots of creative projects to come home. Enjoy the Christmas and Hanukkah Seasons!
NURSERY – KRISTIN MASTERSON
Goodbye Tom Turkey, Hello holiday celebrations! November seemed to go by in the blink of an eye and our class enjoyed the mild weather. Please remember, if in doubt we always go out. Please make sure your child has appropriate outerwear to stay warm. Also, please check your child’s cubby to make sure they have a warm extra set of clothes. If you are interested in reading a story to our class, please see me to set up a time that’s convenient to allJ
PreKINDERGARTEN – WENDY BENNETT
November was spent talking a lot about the things we are thankful for…our family, friends, food, clothing and shelter. We covered the letters F, G and H and learned lots of words and what they begin with. We are really moving along and getting bigger and smarter everyday! Big Thank You’s go out to Ms. Sarah from Stony Brook for teaching us lots about birds; Elisa Ferullo for volunteering in the classroom; Kathleen Costello and Laura Hodge for volunteering their time to walk with us over to the library on our field trip. Also, a big thank you goes out to all who took part in our annual Thanksgiving Feast. Thank you for sharing all of your great food. Looking ahead to December we will be celebrating and learning about different holiday traditions. Please feel free to come in or let me know if you have any special holiday celebrations or traditions you would like to come in and talk about.
PreKINDERGARTEN – CINDY DOWD
I guess winter is coming after all. After a warm, wonderful September and October, November seems to have brought the cold weather. On that note, we do try to get outside every day so please send in the appropriate clothing for outdoor play. We have been so busy. The letters F, G, and H were introduced and we welcomed Miss Sarah from Stony Brook for her regular visit. A lot of time was spent learning about Pilgrims, Native Americans and Thanksgiving. The unit culminated with our annual Thanksgiving feast that each child contributed to by bringing in their favorite Thanksgiving food to share with all our PreK and Transitional friends. It is always a great event. Hopefully your child shared this month’s songs and poems with you. They did a GREAT job learning them. Enjoy your holidays. Reminder: Santa Night is Tuesday, December 2nd .
TRANSITIONAL - MAUREEN
In November we worked on the letters H, I and J, and we learned about the seasons and Thanksgiving. We continue to have emphasis on sharing and being good friends – which is what Thanksgiving is all about. We had fun talking about the seasons and doing all of our seasonal projects. If you notice that some projects don’t come home, it’s because they are being saved for our big Art Show Extravaganza in May. Don’t worry, all projects will be sent home after the exhibit. It really is a fun night! Thanks to everyone for your promised feast contributions, it is always a great time. Have a great Thanksgiving with all of your friends and family.
