We will be delivering the food on November 14th

PARENTS’ CORNER

1.     ABSENTEEISM Viruses, etc., have already caused some absences.  Thank you so much for conscientiously calling these into us each time so we can adjust our attendance records and monitor any serious illnesses.  We keep our classrooms as healthy as possible by washing hands before snack and lunch, washing and bleaching all tables before and after snack and lunch and disinfecting toys which have been in a child’s mouth.  Our fingers are crossed that everyone stays healthyJ

2.        PARTIES – As we approach several holiday celebrations, signup lists will be posted for parents to provide party treats.  Children are very sensitive & like to know they contributed to each event.  We are always truly amazed at how generously parents respond to these activities.

3.    WINTER WEARCold weather is almost upon us and extra care should be given to send your child to school with appropriate outerwear (labeled) for his/her warmth and well-being.  Again, remembering that each teacher may be assisting up to 12 children at a given time, please select items (pull on snow pants, boots, and mittens vs. gloves) that students can easily manage themselves.  Also, please make sure the extra clothing in your child’s backpack is seasonally appropriate.

4.        WEATHER ALERT  Should winter storms necessitate closing school, please listen to local radio stations.  Also, there should be a message on our phone by around 6:00 am (508-359-4239).  We will follow the procedure for Medfield Public Schools and will only close if THE ENTIRE school system closes.  (Check Parents’ Handbook for details).  If Medfield cancels only its Kindergarten programs, we WILL BE OPEN!!

5.        STORY NIGHT – Thanks to all those who came to MCC’s Fifth Annual Story Night.  It was great to see all our friends in their pajamas!  We hope you all had a great timeJ

6.    STONY BROOK - Miss Marla, from Norfolk Stony Brook Auddubon Society, visited our PreK classes last month.  She spoke to  the kids about nocturnal animals. Marla comes monthly to our PreK students to discuss nature topics.  The classes love the program!

7.    COMPUTER TOTS – Miss Ellen, the ComputerTots teacher has started her program which takes place each Thursday.  The children had a great first month.  There is room available if you still wish to sign up your child.  Please see Robin for details.

8.    ESPANOL LESSONS – Each Wednesday, a native speaker, Miss Lidia teaches our students Spanish using songs and fun props.  This is a program we started last year, and seems to be going great!  Please see Robin if you are interested in signing up.

THE FUNNY PAGES

Mrs. Dowd’s class was peeling apples for applesauce.  One of her more compassionate students wondered out loud if the apple peeler was hurting the apple.

One of the boys in Mrs. Dowd’s class confessed (without even being asked) that his “boat was unappropriate” because it has guns on it.

Ms. Wendy’s friend was asked if he’d like to take his sweater off because it was hot.  He replied, “I can’t, I just have my belly on underneath.”

A Big Hall friend brought in a plastic cell phone to show his friends.  His mom said if he brought it in, he’d have to share it.  My friend thought about that and said, “ But what if I have an important call to make?”

DIRECTOR’S CORNER

We enjoy knowing that our MCC students and their younger siblings are having fun playing on the play ground right after pick up time.  However, we do ask that the children follow the rules we handed out in your Open House packets.  The consistency of having to follow MCC’s play yard rules (i.e. going down the slide instead of up) really makes our lives easier during the day.  Most of the rules were designed with your child’s safety in mind.  We appreciate this very muchJ

Tis the season, almost!  For those of you who want some helpful hints, start saving holiday cards.  They make great cutting paper for children who need the practice.  Because they are thicker than normal, you don’t get tearing which tends to frustrate kids.

Please check out the web-site periodically.  Mike Holland (our “Web-Master”), keeps it updated with pictures of the happenings around school and also with the monthly newsletters should you ever misplace yours.  A big thanks to him, as he literally does hours of work on the site on a monthly basis.

Thank you to all who participated in our Square One Art Fundraiser.  We have exceptional artists here at MCC!!

Hope you all have a wonderful, stress free Thanksgiving holiday!!

CLASSROOM CORNER

TODDLERS - October was a busy month filled with some great autumn projects.  We also worked on our shapes!  Thanks to all who attended our Story Night.  It was lots of fun.  Also, a big thank you to all our families for contributing to our ghoulishly great Halloween PartyJ  A scary time was had by all.

ELIZABETH CAPUTO-NURSERY October has come and gone and what a month!  The children loved Transportation Week.  What fun we all had learning the fire safety rules.  Ask your child about Stop, Drop and Roll.  We loved autumn week.  The kids are having so much fun outside in the cool air and all the leaves.  We stayed very busy with all our Halloween Projects.  The kids loved talking about what they were going to be for Halloween.  Our party was a huge success.  All the children were adorable in their costumes.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to our festivities.  November’s focus will be on getting ready for Thanksgiving.  Please remember to bring in warm clothing and make sure it’s labeled!  Thank youJ

KRISTIN MASTERSON-NURSERY The cool wind is blowing and with it comes a chill in the air.  Please feel free to leave a pair of extra outside clothes like a sweatshirt, gloves, hat or mittens in your child’s cubby for the nippy, cool mornings on the playground.  Also be sure to check your child’s cubbie for updated changes of clothing just in case we get super messy or an accident happens, this will ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the cooler weather.  The children have been enjoying many songs and stories to go a long with our themes like “5 Little Pumpkins”, “Halloween Morning” and “Old MacDonald Had a Haunted House”.  If you would like to come and read a story to the class please feel free to see me to set up a time that works with our schedule.

WENDY BENNETT-PreKINDERGARTEN - October went by so fast, scary!  We had such a fun-filled month.  We were very busy learning the letters “B”, “C”, “D” and “E” as well as practicing writing our names and words of the letter we are working on.  We also have been busy counting, especially until the day Halloween arrived.  Thank you to all those that attended our annual Story Night.  A fun time was had by all.  We were lucky to have Stony Brook come and do another fantastic program on night animals.  Thank you also for all that brought in goodies that made our Halloween party so much fun.  How spooky we all were.   Looking ahead to November …we will be having a special field trip to the library.  Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering to help us walk over.  Also, info is coming regarding our PreK feast.

CINDY DOWD-PreKINDERGARTEN - Fall is lots of fun at MCC.  The weather has cooperated and we have had outdoor recess almost every day.  Our class has been super busy inside as well.  One whole week was dedicated to fire safety, always a favorite in PreK.  We introduced the letters “B”, “C”, “D” and “E” -  wow, your children love contributing to our weekly word list.  We added family collage letters this year and they seem to be a big hit and certainly are a great addition to our classroom décor.  All our Halloween projects, songs, poems and stories culminated with fun Halloween parties.  The children looked great in their costumes.  Thank you for all the party contributions.  Story Night was a HUGE success.  Wasn’t it fun to come back to school at night?  Our class is a wonderful group of children and we are off to a great start.  Did you find your child’s life size self portrait in the hallway?  They worked very hard with Mrs. Fischer to complete them in time for Story Night.  Thank you Mrs. Fischer!!

MAUREEN LUPO-PreK/TRANSITIONAL October weather cooperated and we had some great days outside…if only the bees would leave us alone.  Sometimes it’s hard sharing the outdoors with nature.  Our class is getting along and some great friendships are being formed.  In the classroom we talked about and did projects for the letters “D”, “E”, “F” and “G”, as well as about our community.  Our walk to the Fire Station was a great success thanks to Mr. Sampson, Mrs. Tolland and Mrs. Barton joining us.  I couldn’t have done it without you!!  Story Night was another great success.  Thanks to those of you who attended.  In November we will have our Thanksgiving Holiday feast, details will be coming soon!  Thanks for your great kids, enjoy this lovely fall!
